India’s most densely forested state’s education system is shaping up well with more than 23 universities for higher education excluding the Indian Institute of Management at Raipur which is a centre of excellence.
Located centrally in the country, Chhattisgarh has 5 geographical divisions with 27 districts. Of the 5 divisions, namely Baster, Durg, Raipur, Bilaspur and Surguja- Raipur, dominates in education institutions followed by Bilaspur. Raipur at present has 425 plus schools and 11 universities. Mineral resources are the biggest assets of the state that include rich deposit of limestone, iron-ore, copper, rock phosphate, manganese, bauxite and mica. Bhilai Institute of Technology is also located here, which produces one of the largest pool of PHDs in the state.
Chhattisgarh has gained position in Top 10 states in spending on education and training (23%) of total state expenditure.
Chhattisgarh today has nearly 53,400 recognized schools including 5650 private ones. Being a new state, the number of candidates getting selected in IITs, Civil Services or Indian Engineering Services are gradually on a rise. With 277 candidates out of 1670 registered in JEE Advance, getting selected in IIT, in year 2014.
The state today has every potential to be amongst the top states of India, if it continues to grow and give importance to higher education in years to come.
