Company Secretary

Company secretary is a key functionary in the corporate pyramid. There is an increase emphasis on the principles of good governance and compliance by the government and other regulatory authorities. As such responsibilities of CS have increased manifold towards safeguarding the interests of all stakeholders. The Companies Act, 2013 has enhanced the role of CS substantially both in employment and practice.

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is a prestigious national professional body constituted under Act of Parliament, Company Secretaries Act, 1980 to develop and regulate the profession of company secretaries in India.

The Institutes headquarter is in New Delhi, with regional offices in Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and various other cities across India.

How to Become Company Secretary/ Stages to become CS

The students who would like to join the course after 10+2 has to undergo three stages to pursue the CS course:

  1. Foundation Programme (4 Papers)- for 12th pass students
  2. Executive Programme (7 Papers)
  3. Professional Programme (9 Papers)

The student who would like to join the course after passing the graduation has to undergo two stages of the Company Secretaryship i.e. Executive Programme, Professional Programme

Practical and Management Training- After qualifying the first two programmes i.e. Executive and Professional Examination, candidates are required to undergo Practical and Management Training to become qualified professionals in the same field. In order to facilitate students, e-learning portal is also available for all the 3 programmes. The CS course is by Correspondence/ Distance Learning and can be pursued while doing graduation.
