When it comes to education, Bihar has a special place in Indian history. Nalanda, established during the reign of Gupta Dynasty was the world’s first university.
However, all this is history. Post independence the state of education and mode of higher education deteriorated in Bihar and we look at various surveys, a large number of students from Bihar migrate to other states to receive higher education.
The State has a pass percentage of 70.42 at class 10 level but it sees considerable improvement at the class 12 level, where it goes above 90%.The government has taken many steps to woo children to schools by running schemes like money for school uniforms, bicycle (for girls) and scholarships for various classes.
Though the Central and the State government has taken various steps in the past decade to improve the quality of school and higher education in the state by opening some centrally run institutions like Central Universities, Indian Institute of Technology, Nalanda University, etc., they are yet to show results but the state has all credentials to deliver top engineering colleges.
The state has 5 institutions of National Importance, 2 Central Universities, 16 State universities, 2 Deemed and no Private University presently. Two other central universities (AMU and BHU) have set up their centres in the state.
